Visit Azerbaijan and its capital city Baku located on the western bank of the Caspian Sea.
This little oil-rich country is famous for its history, architecture, wonderful resorts of azure sea, exciting landscape of mountains and flowery meadows reminding us about an Azerbaijani carpet. Azerbaijan is famous for its lakes and rivers, flora and fauna.
Azerbaijan is recognized as a one of the oldest countries, where fire-worship was spread until the 4th century AD. Furthermore, Caucasus Albania (one of the oldest Christian states) was formed there. Remains of one of the Christian churches from that period are still saved in the mountainous region of Kish. There are also lots of mosques and shah palaces in the country from middle ages.
The further development of Azerbaijan and Baku is due to oil discovery on the Absheron peninsula. By the end of the 19th century, more than half of the world's oil was produced there. On the Absheron peninsula one can experience unique sightseeing including active mud volcanoes of Gobustan and the Yanar Dagh (Firing Mountain) where the natural gas vents ensure that hot flames roar out of the sides of this hill even when it rains. Here can also be seen the stone boulders with a pictographic inscription from the prehistory period.
It's hard to list all sightseeing Azerbaijan offers. You should experience all this by visiting the country!
