Georgia is considered to be one of the first countries of wine-making. The stem of a Georgian word “gvino” (wine) is used in many European and Asian languages to express the same word. Archaeologists discovered many antique ceramic things used for wine-making. In one of the pitchers grape stones were discovered dating back to AD 5000. In Kakheti up to 500 species of grapes can be identified enabling farmers to produce various types of wine.

 

Day 1: ARRIVAL DAY / TBILISI
Arrive in Georgia - homeland of vine. Transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 2: TBILISI
City tour of Tbilisi: Metekhi Church, Narikala Fortress, Sioni, synagogue, mosque, Abanotubani sulfur baths, walk to the pedestrian street Sharden. Excursion will be finished by visiting one of the leading wine companies in Georgia, see all stages and technology of wine making and taste several sorts of wine. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 3: TBILISI / MTSKHETA / KUTAISI
Departure for Mtskheta, visit Jvari and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. Visit many times awarded wine company, discover Georgian royal family history and legends, take taste of premium class wine. Departure to the West part of Georgia, Kutaisi. Visit renovated Bagrati Cathedral and Gelati Monastery Complex recognized by UNESCO. Culinary master-class: see and participate in traditional method of baking Imeretian Khachapuri (cheese pie) and Ghomi (gruel making by maize flour) in local house. Overnight in Kutaisi.

Day 4: KUTAISI / RACHA / KUTAISI  
Departure to the mountain region Racha - one of the most significant wine producing area, Khvanchkara - a sweet, thick, dark red wine, is produced here. Visit Barakoni and Nikortsminda Church, rich with frescos and fascinating ornaments of vine and its grapes. Visit wine company, tasting several sorts of strong, semi-sweet wines. Overnight in Kutaisi.

Day 5: KUTAISI / UPLISTSIKHE / TBILISI
The route goes to Uplistsikhe Cave Complex - Here was founding grape stones dated back to 5000 years ago, statement that Georgia is the oldest wine producing region. On the way of Tbilisi visit world famous brand cognac, that is known not only for its unique aroma but for the famous Yalta Conference, where among delegates Stalin and Churchill were fascinating by the taste of cognac. Culinary master-class: see and take part in making Georgian national dish Khinkali (dumpling). Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 6: TBILISI / KAKHETI REGION
Departure to the East part of Georgia Kakheti Region, homeland of wine, Kakheti has the oldest continuous unbroken unique Qvevri traditions of clay pots used to create delicious, unfiltered, organic wines. Sightseeing of Sighnaghi, Art museum remarkable with the exhibition of famous painter Niko Pirosmani, Bodbe Monastery. After excursion visit local Wine House, get known how wine is making in private houses and taste "Chacha" and wine kept in a "Kvevri" built into the ground. Culinary master-class: bake Georgian bread called "Shoti", cook Kakhetian barbeque Mtsvadi, Georgian national sweet "Churchkhela", distill Chacha. OPTION: while lunch enjoy with Georgian folk songs and famous toasts offered by Tamada. Continue to Tsinandali - family estate, museum, vinery belonged to great winemaker Aleksandre Chavchavadze. Overnight in Telavi.

Day 7: KAKHETI REGION / TBILISI
Visit Germi. Visit wine cellar in Kvareli. Fascinating tour of the tunnel, re-creative park with river and old "kvevris" (some of them are older than a century) and waterfalls outside of the tunnel. Tasting. Drive to Napareuli cellar and vineyard. After lunch visit Alaverdi Cathedral and Ikalto Monastery. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 8: TBILISI / DEPARTURE DAY
Transfer to airport, departure.
